IBM Research India provides industry experience and world class technologies to these students to show their talent. During internship students work on current projects happening in the lab, they solve problems with the help of their mentors. Idea is to give industry experience to the students and look for future employees.
Required technical and professional expertise
We are looking for a talented and highly motivated engineer/scientist to contribute to our research and development efforts across multiple frontiers of AI. The candidate will work on creating efficient and scalable large language and foundation models, with a specific focus on enterprise applications. Areas of research include AI for IT automation, intersection of data and AI, agentic middleware and models, embedding and AI-based retrieval, time series foundation models, geospatial and multi-modal foundation models, GenAI security, AI for math and reasoning, and AI for software engineering.
Eligibility Criteria
B.E. / B.Tech
M.E. / M.Tech (including Dual Degree programs)
Ph.D.
Minimum 70% or 7.0 CGPA and above in the pursuing degree

Preferred technical and professional experience
AI libraries/frameworks such as TensorFlow/PyTorch, Jupyter notebooks, Deep learning fundamentals, Data Manipulation and Analysis for large data, tools (pandas, NumPy), linear algebra, probability, statistics, Git, Containerization (Docker/Kubernetes/Openshift)

Subareas:
1. Qiskit development:
open source development and software engineering
coding skill in Qiskit
coding experience in Rust
good to have: foundations in quantum computing, graph theory, probability
2. AI for Quantum:
hands-on skill in large language models, agentic AI and reinforcement learning frameworks or workflows
familiarity with machine learning model development and data science
deployment and engineering of AI solutions
3. Quantum algorithm and engineering:
theoretical foundation in quantum computing including QAOA
coding skill in Qiskit
ability to read a paper and implement its methodology
good to have: understanding of tensor networks
4. Services, infrastructure and reliability:
knowledge of Kubernetes, CI/CD, IaC, GitOps, linux and open source contributions
experience with IAM, RBAC, encryption, secret management and CNCF tools
familiarity with building services in NodeJS / Typescript / Python, and Vector DBs or bot development
